Q: I’m embarrassed to admit that I check my phone at least once every two minutes. What should I do?

A: You are addicted, plain and simple. But don’t feel bad about it. It’s science. Every time you get a new email, your brain actually releases dopamine. So there’s a reason you feel the urge to check. I find the simplest way to break the habit is to force yourself to leave the phone in another room. Set mini goals for yourself like, ‘I won’t look at my phone until this show is over’ or ‘I won’t look at my phone until my kids go to sleep.’ You’ll feel very proud for the successes and slowly will grow accustomed to not needing an Internet fix as often. Trust me, I know.
